This year implements many critical changes in the TSL industry. Therefore, it carries various challenges.
What will we have to face and get used to in the coming months?
➡️ Projected implementation of e-CMR - electronic shipping list.
The plan for its full implementation is after finishing the union platform e-FTI. This innovation brings many assets to our industry. Including:
🔸 Real-time transportation tracking - it will provide companies and clients complete control over the transport and its cargo
🔸 Cost benefits and ecological aspects - it will reduce costs of printing and sending paper documents, but it also will limit paper use and emission of transporting documents
🔸 Speed and effectiveness - it will eliminate the necessity of waiting for docs, which will allow to start the invoicing process immediately after completed transport
But also some difficulties will arise so as:
▪️ Using the e-CMR will involve appropriate technical infrastructure and tools
▪️ Risks relevant to data security when sending information online will come up.
However, in the face of the many assets that this system will carry, the flaws seem insignificant. Digitalization of transport is the inevitable step that will bring a lot of advantages for both our planet and the companies themselves.
➡️ Technology revolution
🔸 The oldest tachograph replacement in international transport for II generation smart tachograph until the 31st of December
🔸 Adjustment of the vehicles drawing into London to the DVS standards
🔸 Further stage in transforming fleets into powered by sheer energy
🔸 Rise in popularity of systems for intelligent route planning
➡️ Sustainable transport and environment protection
🔸 Changes in Mobility Package - a reversal of a judgment of the Tribunal Mobility Package law mandating the coming back of vehicles every eight weeks to carrier company seat. Previous demands received criticism for making additional costs and emissions.
🔸 The challenge for the companies is still mitigation of transport's impact on the environment. It involves searching for more and more better and new solutions. Carriers who want to keep themselves up on the market must adjust to the changes in the industry.
🔸 Rise in the importance of intermodal transport due to union policies of reducing carbon footprint.
➡️ Changes in Border Target Operating Model
🔸 The 31st of January, 2024 - Implementation of the bill of health when importing animal and plant products and average risk plant products and eatables and feed undivided from high-risk animals from the UE. Abolition of prior notification requirement for low-risk EU plant products and plants.
🔸 The 30th of April, 2024 - Implemented controls of animal and plant products, plants, eatables, and feed undivided from animals from the UE founded on documents and risk of identification and physical control. Existing controls of high-risk EU plants and plant products will be relocated - from the destination to the border inspection posts. Imports from non-EU countries will also begin to be simplified. It will include abolishing the Bill of Health and routine checks on low-risk animal and plant products and plants from non-EU countries but also - will reduce the level of physical and identification controls of medium-risk animal products from non-EU countries.
🔸 The 31st of October, 2024 - Requirement to submit Safety and Security declarations when importing into the UK from the UE or other exempt territories. Along with this, limited data for imports will be implemented, and the use of the UK Single Trade Window will, where possible, remove duplication of various data - such as pre-submitted customs declarations.
➡️ Rise in transportation costs due to rising road toll
As a result of road toll increases in European countries, truck transport costs will exceed the levels of previous years. Word has it the increase of transport cost by up to 12%. Not all the costs will be able to pass on to the final customer. Some of them - transport service providers will have to foot the bill, as well as companies from the production and trade sectors.
In our opinion, these are some of the most important changes for this year. What do you think about them?
