The year 2025 brings significant changes to the Transport, Freight Forwarding, and Logistics sector. New legal regulations, advanced technologies, and increasing environmental requirements are forcing businesses to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions. What changes are in store for carriers, and how can they prepare?
Expansion of the SENT System
As of January 1, 2025, the SENT system has been expanded to include the mandatory registration of international transport operations carried out by entities from other European Union member states, Switzerland, and countries within the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). The goal? Increased transparency in road transport and a crackdown on unfair competition. For companies, this means additional obligations related to transport registration.
New Tachograph Regulations
In September 2025, the next phase of the Mobility Package will come into effect. All carriers whose vehicles were registered between June 15, 2019, and August 21, 2023, will be required to replace their tachographs with second-generation devices. Failure to comply? Expect fines and potential issues during inspections.
Removal of the Customs Exemption for Low-Value Goods
Until now, goods valued below €150 were exempt from customs duties. As of 2025, this exemption will be eliminated to prevent the underreporting of shipment values in e-commerce. From now on, all goods imported into the European Union will be subject to customs duties, regardless of their value.
New Regulations, New Challenges – but Also New Opportunities. The year 2025 brings substantial changes to the transport industry, from the expansion of SENT and mandatory tachograph replacements to new customs rules. Let’s be honest – there will be some confusion, but the sooner companies adapt, the lower the risk of unpleasant surprises.
Can these changes be avoided? No. But you can prepare properly to avoid problems and extra costs. Now is the time to analyze what needs to be adjusted, update systems, and ensure that drivers and freight forwarders are aware of what lies ahead.
Transport has never been an easy industry, but those who stay ahead of the curve always come out on top. So, don’t wait until the last minute—because in this business, delays are the most expensive mistake you can make.
