Carriers using certain road sections in Croatia are required to pay road tolls.
In recent years, Croatia has significantly modernized its road infrastructure, allowing trucks to travel faster and more safely.

Special Tolls Apply for Passing Through the Učka Tunnel, which is approximately 5 kilometers long and located on the A8 motorway (Rovinj – Rijeka). This tunnel, an important communication link in the region, provides a quick and convenient connection between Istria and the rest of the country.
Their amount depends on the vehicle category:
➡️ Category II – e.g., buses up to 3.5 tons – €6.20,
➡️ Category III – e.g., trucks with two or three axles and GVW over 3.5 tons – €12.10,
➡️ kat IV – m.in. zestawy składające się z ciągnika siodłowego i naczepy – €24,20.
On the other hand, the Sveti Ilija Tunnel, located on the D532 road, is exempt from tolls, meaning travelers on this route can use it without additional costs.
It is important to remember that highway tolls cannot be paid by a vignette. Croatia has a road toll system similar to that in Poland, i.e., tolls on the closed road network are paid at toll booths or using on-board devices. Therefore, the toll rate depends on the vehicle's parameters and the distance traveled.
Road tolls in Croatia for vehicles up to 3.5 tons
Drivers of vehicles up to 3.5 tons can make payments in cash or by credit card at toll booths. Toll collection points in Croatia for trucks are located at every exit from toll highways. Payment is also possible using an ETC on-board device, which costs 15 euros. Depending on the vehicle's parameters, the chosen payment method, and the time of year, toll discounts ranging from 13.04% to 33.48% are offered. An account for operating the on-board device can be set up on the website hac.hr, where the account balance can also be monitored, and payments can be made in case of choosing the pre-paid payment method.
In the absence of a highway ticket, which must be collected when entering toll highways, double tolls for the appropriate vehicle category from the furthest point on the route are charged.
Croatia – TIR road tolls
Road tolls for TIRs are based on the distance traveled in toll sections. Similar to lower GVW vehicles, road tolls in Croatia for over 3.5 tons can be paid in cash or by credit card at toll booths or by using an ETC on-board device.
