Czech Republic – road tolls for vehicles over 3.5 tons
For vehicles with a GVW over 3.5 tons, it is necessary to have the Billien OBU 5051 electronic device, which can be obtained at physical points or ordered from the toll service website. The Czech Republic introduced the requirement to use on-board units for toll collection on December 1, 2019. When collecting the OBU unit, a refundable deposit of 2468 CZK is required. Then, the device and vehicle must be registered on the website mytocz.eu.
The toll collection device in the Czech Republic should be mounted on the vehicle's windshield using suction cups and connected to an external power source. When mounting, remember basic safety rules and place it in such a way that it does not obstruct the driver's view. It is also important that the device is not covered, for example, by non-working windshield wipers or stickers.
The device uses three technologies:
✅ GPS – to determine the vehicle's location and collect data on the use of toll roads,
✅ GSM/GPRS – for data transfer between the device and IT systems,
✅ DSRC – microwave technology that allows authorized services to control road tolls for trucks in the Czech Republic.
Tolls for trucks in the Czech Republic are automatically collected via the device, but the carrier must provide financial resources in a pre-paid mode (minimum 1000 CZK) or subscription payment – depending on the contract terms, payment is made by bank transfer, credit card, or fuel card.
