By December 31, 2024, G1 and analog tachographs must be replaced.
The G1 and analog tachographs are the oldest models, and since June 15, 2019, they are no longer installed in vehicles.
Every carrier operating vehicles first registered in an EU member state must replace these oldest tachographs with second-generation smart tachographs. This replacement mandate also applies to countries in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. However, it does not apply to non-EU countries such as Switzerland, Ukraine, or Belarus.
This requirement covers vehicles conducting international transport within the EU in a member state other than the vehicle’s country of registration.
Thus, carriers operating only domestic routes, international routes outside the EU, or international routes that do not cross other EU member state borders are exempt from this requirement.
What are the consequences of non-compliance?
Failure to install the appropriate tachograph in the European Union can result in high fines for carriers, with the maximum penalty reaching up to €30,000 or even one year of imprisonment.
Where to replace your tachographs?
Tachographs can only be replaced at certified centers and workshops. In Poland, the Central Office of Measures (Główny Urząd Miar) has a list of certified locations on its website.
